Bangalore Rural, carved out from Bangalore District on 15th August 1986, has historically been a part of the Ganga and Nolamb Pallavas dynasties. Mankund, Manne (erstwhile Manyapura), and Gangavadi were towns of historical importance. It is rich in dry farming crops such as ragi and mulberry, and supports urban Bangalore through the support of dairying, poultry farming and horticulture.
