Mafia Targets Police Quarters in Malleshwaram

Electricity Bill Exposes ₹80 Crore Land Scam: Mafia Targets Police Quarters in Malleshwaram

BENGALURU – In a daring attempt that has sent shockwaves through the city’s administration, a land-grabbing syndicate attempted to seize a prime century-old property belonging to the Karnataka Police Department in Malleshwaram. The property, valued at approximately ₹80 crore, was nearly usurped using forged documents before a simple utility bill blew the lid off the scam.

The “Spark” That Ignited the Investigation

The fraud came to light when Inspector M. Kumar of the Bengaluru South Lokayukta, who resides in the Malleshwaram police quarters, received a routine electricity bill. To his shock, the BESCOM bill was no longer addressed to the Police Department but to a private individual named M.R. Mahalakshmi.

Suspicious of the change, Inspector Kumar initiated a preliminary inquiry, which revealed a deep-rooted conspiracy involving the manipulation of government records.

Modus Operandi: Forgery and Collusion

The investigation uncovered that the accused had allegedly conspired with corrupt officials from the BBMP (civic body) and BESCOM to:

Create a Fraudulent e-Khata: Digital property records were illegally altered to reflect private ownership.

Draft Sale Agreements: A sale agreement had already been executed in favor of an associate named Krishnamurthy.

Bypass Century-Old Records: Despite survey maps from 1913 clearly marking the 25,000 sq. ft. land as “Police Quarters,” the mafia managed to project it as private land.

Threats to Police Families

The audacity of the gang didn’t stop at paperwork. On March 9, a group of individuals reportedly entered the quarters—currently housing the families of four police inspectors—and issued death threats. They claimed ownership of the land and ordered the officers’ families to vacate the premises immediately or face “forceful eviction.”

Action Taken

Following a formal complaint by Inspector Kumar, the Malleshwaram Police registered an FIR and have since arrested three key suspects: Krishnamurthy, Srinath Nagaragadde, and Krishna.

“This incident highlights a dangerous trend where organized syndicates target government properties using sophisticated document manipulation. We are investigating the extent of the collusion within the BBMP and BESCOM,” stated a senior police official.
