J C Chaudhry buys properties worth 200 Crore
The founder of Aakash Educational Services, which runs the Aakash Institute, has bought properties worth Rs 200 crore in the national capital region. JC Chaudhry, Founder & Chairman Emeritus at Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL) bought a bungalow in Delhi’s prestigious Greater Kailash area for Rs 51 crore and three luxury apartments at DLF The Camellias for around Rs 150 crore in Gurugram, Chaudhry paid Rs 3.06 crore in stamp duty alone for the Greater Kailash property. The DLF property in Gurugram is yet to be registered, but the fit-out work has been started,
The Greater Kailash bungalow was bought from Infinity Buildwell and is spread across an area of 1,000 square yards. Neha Bansal, the co-founder of retailer Lenskart, recently bought a 400-square feet bungalow in the same locality for Rs 22 crore, the report added quoting two unnamed sources.
Earlier in August this year, the co-promoter and managing director of the Aakash Institute founder bought a 1,300 square metre bungalow in the Kautilya Marg area of Delhi for Rs 137 crore, after buying a 5-acre farmhouse in Delhi for Rs 137 crore. He earlier bought a 2000-square-yard property in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar are for over Rs 100 crore.
The big-ticket real estate investments by the Chaudhry family follow a $950-million deal in which Aakash Institute was acquired by edtech platform Byju’s. The $950-million deal with Byju’s was announced in April 2021. The Byju Raveendran-led company in an earlier statement said Aakash has grown more than 100% since its acquisition.
Established in the year 1988 as a single centre with just 12 students, Aakash was conceptualised by JC Chaudhry. The educational services company is one of the earliest players in India’s organised test preparatory service industry. The company has over 200 learning centres, and a student count of over 250,000, according to the company’s website.
